PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Sixers continued their string of roster moves on Friday. The team announced that they were calling up forward Ronald Roberts from the Sevens. In a related move, the team waived guard Jorge Gutierrez to create a roster spot for Roberts.
Gutierrez was acquired on Thursday from the Nets with Andrei Kirilenko in a deal that sent Brandon Davies to Brooklyn.
With Davies gone, the Sixers were left with only two players that could play center in Nerlens Noel and Henry Sims. Roberts will provide some added size to Brett Brown’s front court.
Roberts started all eight games for the Sevens this season. He averaged a team high 18 points and also led the team in rebounds per game averaging 12. He also shot 67% from the floor.
Local hoops fans may be familiar with Roberts who played four seasons for St. Joseph’s before signing with the Sixers as an undrafted free agent this past summer.
